Poetry can change the world

I said to my friend once:
“Poetry can change the world”.
She said
“Hah, don’t be so stupid”.
I said
“It can, poetry conveys and provokes
emotion in a way that nothing else can”.
She said
“No it can’t, poetry’s just rubbish”.
So I read her a poem I wrote about
child labour and asylum seekers and
when I finished and I looked up she
was silently crying and the tears were
rolling down her cheeks and
splashing on the floor.
